Registered Apprenticeships
Virginia’s Registered Apprenticeship program, conducted by state education resources in partnership with the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, enables employers to mold the skills of employees to match specific needs.
Virginia’s Registered Apprenticeship program reinforces your on-the-job training efforts with classroom instruction (conducted through local Career & Technical Education [CTE] centers or community colleges).
The program’s on-the-job component enables apprentices to learn firsthand from their employer’s best team members. It also allows training to be tailored to a particular set of technical skills or to specialized production machinery.
There are no mandatory fees or outlays for being an apprenticeship sponsor, although most employers opt to pay the relatively low cost of their apprentices’ tuition. (Apprentices typically take classes two nights per week.)
Here in Virginia, the Registered Apprenticeship program has been in place more than 60 years, with more than 3,000 businesses currently sponsoring well over 15,000 apprentices.
